A Financial Analysis of Placing Fixed Grain Assets in Northern Kansas
Seth Post, Minneapolis, Kan., defended his thesis, “A Financial Analysis of Placing Fixed Grain Assets in Northern Kansas,” on April 19, 2012. Post is General Manager of The Scoular Co. in Minneapolis, Kan. He will graduate from Kansas State University in May with a Master of Agribusiness (MAB) degree.
The Scoular Company is an employee-owned agricultural company with 60 facilities nationwide. In order to stay competitive, they are always looking for projects to add value to their operation. Post examined the feasibility of developing one such project in Northern Kansas.
“Due to consolidation within the grain handling industry, we are looking for opportunities from a strategic geographic standpoint and a revenue generation standpoint,” Post said.
His study of county production, acres devoted to crop production, bid structures and freight spreads will make it possible to determine whether the new project is a good decision.
Christine Wilson, Associate Professor of Agricultural Economics and Post’s thesis advisor, said, “Seth’s research involves examining an important strategic decision for his company. The results of his analysis can be used in determining future growth opportunities.”
